Best New Orleans Dog Parks and the Neighborhoods to Find Them

New Orleans is as dog-friendly of a city as you’ll ever live.   Dogs are welcome into many public places, both inside and outside- and not just little dogs but dogs of all sizes.  Residences often leave water bowls out front for our four legged friends supply and businesses (restaurants, stores, etc.) will be ready with treat-in-hand.

New Orleans has several dog parks for your dog to socialize and for you to wear him/her out with little effort.  Here are four that are sure to get the job done.

  • The Dog Levee - Audubon Neighborhood

    The Dog Levee is next door to The Fly, which you’ll find right behind Audubon Zoo. There’s plenty of room for your dog to stretch its legs and run full speed, but just be careful because this dog park isn’t fenced in and there is a train and heavy Leake Road traffic not too far off, as well as bike traffic along the bike highway. There is, however, plenty of shade and sure to be plenty of playmates for your dogs as well.

    The river is totally accessible so if your dog is prone to go swimming he can and will- bring towels!

  • Wisner Dog Park - West Riverside (Uptown)

    This little gem hidden behind F&Ms and Grits is a fully fenced in dog park, deceptively large and tucked in between a playground for kids and a baseball field. There’s always someone there with their dog so your bound to have a playmate. Wisner also has doggie bags and water fountains for both dogs and people. The park isn’t regulated (free!) however and when it rains, the dirt patch situated under the main tree promptly turns into a muddy watering hole. If it’s rained within 48 hours of being at this park, bring towels for the back of the car just in case- or try one of the other options!

  • NOLA City Bark - City Park Neighborhood

    City Bark is 4.6 landscaped acres of land in City Park, fully equipped with water fountains (for your dog and for you), shaded pavilions, a walking trail, doggie bags, and on-site restrooms for people. There are separate play quarters for big dogs and small dogs.

    The only downside is that there is a membership fee, a modest $48 for the entire year. On the bright side, this membership fee helps ensure your pooch is playing with dogs that are spade and neutered, and otherwise healthy. Zero risk!

  • The End of the World - Bywater

    Another unofficial dog park, this park is also along the river but without the traffic of The Dog Levee, hence it’s name “The End of World.” Park your car (if you drove), cross the railroad tracks and move away from the bridge and follow the Levee along the canal towards the Mississippi. Of all the options, The End of the World provides the most privacy and open space for your dog. The scenery is lovely, the people (if there are any) are friendly, and the experience allows for your dog to be as close as a dog could possibly get in the heart of a city.

    One you get to the edge of the End of the World there will be a spot for your dog to swimming so if you think Rover may dive in, come prepared.
